Naxos Beaches: The island of Naxos has some of the most beautiful
beaches in Greece
Agios Giorgios is the capital’s beach. It is one of the most popular of Naxos Greece, a long full organised sandy beach offering sun beds, umbrellas and water sports facilities.
It is a famous windsurfing spot with a couple of clubs offering rentals.
The beach gets quickly overcrowded during peak season and is lined by several cafes and restaurants. The area has also many hotels, rooms and studios.
AGIOS PROKOPIS Agios Prokopios is situated 5 km from the island’s capital. It is the most popular Naxos beach and worldly recognised as one of the most beautiful in Europe. It is a 1.5 km long golden sandy beach, protected from the wind, with beautiful crystal waters.
Agia Anna is situated 7 km from the main town, just after the beach of Agios Prokopios. The area is characterised by an endless sandy beach only interrupted by a small fishing port and some rocky points. The beach has some fully organised parts.
It can be reached by bus or by caique( small fishing boat turned into tourist transportation for the summer).
The village of Agia Anna offers a great choice of hotel, rooms/studios to let, fish restaurants, cafes, bars and night clubs.
Plaka is one of the most beautiful Naxos beaches. It is the continuity of the beach of Agia Anna. It is a beautiful, quiet and endless sandy beach with wonderful crystal waters. Some parts of the beach have sun beds and umbrellas but the major part has kept its natural beauty.
A very few hotels, restaurants and cafés are located behind the dunes.
Only one part of the beach is organised with sun beds, umbrellas and water sports facilities.
Behind the beach’s dunes, a small village offers many hotels, restaurants, cafes and bars.
The beach is easily reachable by the buses that depart frequently from Naxos Town.
Mikri Vigla is situated 18 km away from the main town and is considered as one of the most beautiful Naxos beach resorts.
The area offers two beaches separated by an impressive hill.
The north part of Mikri Vigla has a beautiful golden sandy beach with crystal waters.
The beach is blessed by the “meltemi”, the local Cycladic wind and that makes the beach perfect for windsurfing.
It is a world famous windsurfing spot and the Club Mistral rents high quality material. The area has several nice hotels and restaurants.
The south part is an endless sandy beach with fantastic water colours, also protected by the meltemi wind. It is a quiet family beach with a unique taverna offering food of quality.
is a small and charming fishing village in the north of the island.
The village has a comfortable sandy beach lined by many fish restaurants
offering food of quality and, a couple of cafés.
There are also in the village a few accommodations. An other attraction
of the village is the famous “Kouros”.
Orkos is situated in the continuity of Plaka. The area consists of several beautiful little and quiet sandy beaches. The landscape of the area is beautiful. Impressive hills with red colours can be admired just behind the beaches.
Orkos also offers some accommodation facilities.
The beach is famous for its windsurfing conditions but there are no clubs on the beach.
It is reachable by car through the beach resort of Mikri Vigla.
KASTRAKI, ALYKO AND AYIASSOS BEACH
Kastraki is the beach after Sahara, a beautiful golden sandy beach with crystal water.
There are a few accommodations behind the beach.
Alyko is a beautiful white sandy beach with cedar trees growing in the dunes. A few restaurants can be found in the area.
Ayiassos is one of the last Naxos beaches of the southwest of the island. It is a nice and quiet sandy beach protected by the wind.
Sahara beach is situated in the continuity of the south part of Mikri Vigla. It is a large and quiet sandy beach with beautiful crystal waters.
There is a restaurant behind the beach with a few rooms to rent. The beach is a quiet alternative to Mikri Vigla for the slalom windsurfers looking to escape from the crowd.
MOUTSOUNA AND THE EASTERN BEACHES
Moutsouna is situated 54 km from the capital. It is a little port with some fish tavernas and a few rooms/apartments to let. The area also offers several small sandy beaches that are easily reachable.
The eastern side of the island offers many sandy beaches that remain isolated from the crowd even during the peak season and that all have their natural beauty to offer to the visitor that will make the effort to look for them.
